Corrected Hazard Scores in Factories

Abstract
|
|
|
Hazard-control level of workplace environment depends upon a number of the agents with their determinants. Therefore, it is usually hard to apply the survey data per se to the management of workplace environomental conditions, especially for non-specialist personnel due mainly to their sophsticated complexity.
In the present study, simple Corrected Hazard Scores(CHSs) were obtained as calculated by correcting for the survey data of 4 agents (noise, thermal condition, air contaminant and contact hazard) with 4 determinants (concentration degree over permissible level of the agents, exposure time, working intensity and number of exposed workers by the agents). With these CHSs, 44 factories with more than 50 workers were compared by the unit-workpart or by the factory. The results were as follows:
1) In ASJD factory, 3 unit-workparts with the highest CHSs such as the 168 points in noise, the 129 points in air contaminant, the 186 points in contact hazard agent, and 1 unit-workpart with high CHSs for the overlapping 3 agents were found. In KMCO, 3 unit-workparts with the highest CHSs such as the 16 points in noise, the 6 points in thermal condition, the 34 points in air contaminant, and 1 unit-workpart with high CHSs for the overlapping 2 agents were found.
2) The highest CHSs of the 44 factories included the 1, 752 points of JNBJ factory in noise, the 86 points of HBUY factory in thermal condition, the 220 points of ASJD factory in air contaminant and the 345 points of ASJD factory in contact hazard. Particulary, ASJD factory showed the higher CHSs for the noise, air contaminant and contact hazard agents.
3) A positive correlation between CHSs and number of workers in each of the factories was found with respect to the noise, air contaminant and contact hazard agents. Thus the larger factories showed a proportionally increasing problems.
